Do not buy, will break withen two weeks Jan 12, 2008
By Ian Jablonowski The iHome Desk Lamp is composed mostly of cheap plastic. The lamp was nice for the two times I was able to use it before the base piece snapped. It is impossible to fix and the it's not possible to reconnect the lamp back to the base.
The speakers are very low quality although they advertise the opposite. If you use it like I do (just for low listening while doing homework or browsing, their fine).
I figure that most of these overpriced iHomes go for $100+, so I ended up tearing off the base of the lamp (if you do it right it only creates a 1cm hole), cutting the wires and using it as a regular ipod dock. It still functions fine and when you dock an iPod into it you can't see the hole created from removing the lamp.
If you are looking to buy this thing, DON'T. If you already have this piece of junk, when your lamp breaks (it will), take a look at my advice.

By Linda Filion Same as the previous reviewer, first one was broken out of the box and
the second broken the next day. Do not buy!

Great idea; terrible engineering Jun 27, 2008
By E. M. Cronan I purchased one of these, and it arrived broken where the lamp meets the iPod player. The plastic had snapped, in spite of the fact that it was packed nicely.
I was sent a new one, and it too arrived broken in the exact same spot.
Again, it's a great idea, if someone can come up with a more solid way of combining the two components.

Oversized paperweight Dec 24, 2007
By John Shaffer We had two at Christmas. The first was broken even before the box was opened. The second broke almost immediately from normal use. The problem is with the plastic pieces at the base of the lamp's pole. They are far too easily broken and are unlikely to last even one day.

If you don't touch the lamp it works great. Jan 02, 2008

I had bought this to put in the guest bedroom. I thought it was great because it was a night lamp for reading and/or an ipod dock if you just wanted to listen to music. I barely pulled the lamp downward and the plastic piece that lets the lamp move broke off.
