We had two at Christmas. The first was broken even before the box was opened. The second broke almost immediately from normal use. The problem is with the plastic pieces at the base of the lamp's pole. They are far too easily broken and are unlikely to last even one day.

I just bought one at Lowes. Like the other reader commented, it breaks at the arm base where it moves up and down waaay too easily. Mine broke within minutes that I had. I didn't even take it home :(
Do not buy!! You will have to return it the minute you open it.

Other reviewers seem to have been overly excited to use this item, leading to its early demise. My only quarrel is finding replacement bulbs can be tricky. makes a good nightstand lamp for charging.

Overview:
I love these lamps! I have 3 of them. One for my kitchen, one for my desk and one for my bedroom nightstand. Used with care, the should not break, but not recommended for children or careless teens with iPhones.

This *DOES* work with iPhone 3GS.
I bought them for my iPhone 3GS, and they work fine. Because it was made for an iPod, it does ask to go into airplane mode, but you can always say no, and the lamps work great anyway. Ignore the iPhone warning. This does not really have anything to do with what you'd be using this accessory for, and all iPod accessories with the universal dock makes the iPhone display this message. However, see note below about fitting your iPhone in the dock.
Great Sound Quality!:

The sound quality impressed me. I mostly got this for the light and the charging dock, but the music that comes from the speakers on the base is really deep, loud and fills the room easily. The extra bass boost button makes bass very loud without distortion.
Other Notes:

I don't feel that it is too fragile, but sudden adjustments might cause it to break.
I adjust mine using the handle-rod on the light all the time without fear of breaking it.
It also has a headphone jack, (though I don't know what use that is. Why wouldn't you just plug headphones into your iPhone/Pod?)
There is also a line in cord, to plug in non-iPod mp3 players.

The buttons are sort of designed poorly. Their appearance leads you to believe you should press IN, but they wont depress unless you're pressing DOWN. Not a deal breaker, but just a small annoyance.
Other Notes:

While the dock works with iPhone, the included inserts that customize the dock to fit a specific iPod model does not include one for an iPhone. To use an iPhone, you'll need to dock the phone WITHOUT the custom inserts, which leaves your iPhone not well supported in the dock, physically. You will have to use care to properly insert the dock plug at the right angle and keep from bending the iPhone while it's docked. I could see someone being too rough and breaking the docking plug off or their iPhone's docking receptacle. Getting used to this is not difficult, but I would not recommend this product for children or careless teens. Once docked, the iPhone is still fairly sturdy, just use gentle hands when navigating the screen.
Here are two disclaimers for this review:
1. I bought these lamps at 50% less than listed here at the time of this review, so my satisfaction is based on that price.
2. I pre-read the reviews before using so I have been gentle with the lamps. I have not experienced any breaking of any kind while using with normal care. Again, I do not recommend this product for kids, especially in conjunction with iPhones.

I bought another one of these lamps from Amazon.com. As I had said, the previous 3 that I owned came from another retailer, (but they were the same model).
The one I received from Amazon was the same model as the ones I had previously purchased, however there has clearly been a design update somewhere along the way, and my latest purchase was the old version. I believe the ones I bought from Woot were a newer design to address the fragile nature of the base. The one I just received from Amazon, must be a the old design, as I really do see how the base could easily be broken, though, I'm confident with this knowledge and a little gentleness it will last me a while.
It is a very small design change. Right where the lamp shaft connects to the base unit. The newer design has been revamped to provide much more weight/force support, while the one I received from Amazon, is very flimsy, and cheap feeling. There is very little support for the lamp shaft at the junction, and I see how normal use could possibly break this piece, and breaking this piece would certainly ruin the product without being fixable.
My advice would be to try and order the revised product elsewhere, at least for the time being until Amazon exhausts their stock of the old design. These really are good lamps if you can somehow get your hand on the revised model.
I have removed 1 star from this rating to reflect the Amazon product, but remain supportive of the general product as it is manufactured today.

I purchased 2 and like so many others, my IHL10s arrived broken "out of the box." Unlike others, the mechanical joint that holds the lamp arm didn't break (perhaps because I was "warned) but the lamp switch didn't work on one unit and the headphone / output jack just sent garbage to my headphones on the other. I contacted the US distributor "Checkolight" and they would not repair or replace the units; rather, they offered to substitute the items with a much cheaper lamp with fewer features. My take: they had given up on trying to keep this garbage viable.
I tried to fix the broken switch and found a HUGE gob of solder on a connection that caused the circuit board to fracture during assembly.
Re. a previous review trying to figure out why there are bad reviews: your experience is not our experience...enough said. Don't try to guess our motivation-just review the product.
