Sound broke...lamp still works Feb 22, 2010 I got this for Chanukah and the actual speakers or ipod connection does not work anymore. It does not charge the ipod now either and of course. The lamp works but the speakers/ipod connection seems to be very poorly constructed.
Do yourself a service and safe your money. It is like throwing money away to buy this.
Maybe I got a faulty one..I don't know...but I can tell you that it went into the garbage this morning and I will never buy another ihome product.
Middle of the road - Good construction, bad audio quality. Jan 25, 2010 =============
OVERVIEW
=============
I bought this item from Amazon, to replace the iHome Desk Lamp with iPod/mp3 Dock, White (iHL10) docking lamp that I loved, but wanted by my bedside instead of on my desk:
Mainly, while I am a big fan of the iHL10, I didn't care to have an audio solution for my iPhone in the office, but I was more interested in a light source that also charged my iPhone, so I was looking for a lower priced product. That being said, I will review this product as if I was buying it for all of it's features.
The sturdiness of this product is good, and I would definitely recommend this for children or young people over the iHL10.
============
THE GOOD
============
- The construction is sturdy, durable and strong. Much sturdier than the iHL10. I would recommend this item over the iHL10 for young people.
- It is compact, and smaller than the iHL10
- Uses standard light bulbs, rather than the special halogen bulbs used in the iHL10, which can be hard to handle and keep replacements on hand.
- The goose neck adjustable neck is much more convenient than the iHL10
- Technically, this will actually work with your iPhone or iPod Touch, though it isn't officially supported. It will charge your iPhone, and it will play music from it.
============
THE BAD
============
-The audio quality of this dock is not very good. It's probably acceptable for a garage, or a young person's bedroom, but most adults and music/audio fans will probably not like this.
-This is not a stereo device. It only has one speaker, despite the case's appearance. The "wrap around" screen is only for show, not for actual multiple speakers.
- This device is prone to significant audio interference. For some reason, when I dock my iPhone with this lamp, I always get lots of signal noise through the speakers that I don't get on any of my 3 iHL10 docking lamps. This noise is most prominent and constant when I'm NOT playing music from the iPod application, which is annoying. I realize, that this is why the iPhone (and probably the iPod touch too) will warn you that the dock is not made for the iPhone, but considering I don't get this on the other three docks that are also not made for the iPhone, I blame this lamp.
- You do have to be gentle when docking and undocking, because they do not offer a custom fit plate for iPhones or iPod Touch.
- While it's harder to manage a replacement supply of halogen bulbs, I do prefer the halogen light output of the iHL10.
- The design of this dock is not as attractive as other lamps.

IN THE END...
==============
This product is probably worth the price. You do get what you pay for, and I'm pleased with it's sturdiness. This product would be good for kids, or the garage, or any adult who doesn't mind less fidelity in their music, or who will use this in a situation where sturdiness would be required.
If you prefer better light, better sound, a more elegant design, and can handle being gentle and paying a heftier price, I would recommend the iHome Desk Lamp with iPod/mp3 Dock, White over this one.
Hummmmmmmmmmmm Jan 08, 2010 I bought two of these for my kids. Both have an annoying low-level hum that can be heard when things quiet down (ie. at night). Furthermore, when the iPod is attached but not turned on, the hum is exacerbated making it impractical to charge the iPods at night. I am returning both units.

When you have little desk space, but need a little sound and a little light Oct 24, 2008 Okay, like many people who work a little too much my desk resembles a disaster area, so desk space is limited. This device is perfect for me. It gave me the light I need and an iPod speaker to listen to at work.
Likewise space on my kitchen counter is limited as well. So here again it was perfect. I could listen to my audiobooks as I cook dinner.
I have to admit part of my enthusiasm for this device is I picked it up on sale for $35. Considering the fact it does not actually link to you computer in a USB or FIREWIRE manner to share files or update your iPod, but can only act as a speaker, a lower price point seems a more appropriate price point.
Disappointed Aug 21, 2008 Although it looks like it would have good sound, there is actually just one small speaker that faces backwards! The sound is not projected forward to the listener. Very inconvenient. And the bulb blew out on the second day.
