Classic- Well Worth It! Feb 14, 2000 This Dilbert Series is fantastic. I listened to the entire series in the car at least 5 times before giving away my audio books. This is perfect for listening in the car for local trips since it's simply a string of segments, not a story or long narrative. The fact that all of it is read by the author, Scott Adams, makes it twice as good to listen to since he adds meaning through his intonation, cadence and emphasis.
Dilbert provided a set of amusing observations of business in America when the economy was much better and expectations were higher. Looking back, even though his humor complains about management thinking, Adams wrote all this during better economic times.
One caveat: THE DILBERT FUTURE book was something I found next to worthless (sorry Scott Adams!). I just didn't think that book was very funny, thoughtful or worthy especially compared to the other two books: THE JOY OF WORK, and DOGBERT'S TOP SECRET MANAGMENT HANDBOOK.
Adams had a lot of biting humor to which many employees could relate. In his books, he tells the funny things but also explains what is behind the humor. His books show that he was a great thinker about business and a great communicator.
Some examples from his books include the following: how workers want to get on projects that have no deadline or deliverables; how management always comes up with new faddish management lingo and metrics; how management often involves workers in one-off activities that take a lot of time for very limited results and will not be repeated and typical back-and-forth conversations between management and those managed.
What makes Adams' work funny is that many of us can relate to it based on some experiences. One sees their organization going in the wrong direction on a matter but one is incapable of stopping it, and further, one often ends up spending much of their time trying to cover their behinds since they know things will eventually blow up and they want to escape blame (and getting fired).
Sometimes events happen since Adams published his books that remind me of the truths and lessons he provided in them. For example, when one thinks about how the recent presidential administration was managed, there is a goldmine filled with data right out of Dilbert's experiences. Nobody could try hard to pierce the bubble and tell the president that contrary to all the positive reports the government was issuing, the situation in Iraq was not good. That would result in the messenger being labeled unpatriotic and definitely dismissed from his or her lucrative post.
I hope you will enjoy this Dilbert Series and post a comment on your observations.

(Almost) Every Novel by Scott Addams in a cassete tape Nov 28, 1999 For those Scott Addams fans out there, I'm sure you've all read Scott Addams' famous humor novels. Like THE DILBERT FUTURE, THE JOY OF WORK, and DOGBERT'S TOP SECRET MANAGMENT HANDBOOK. Even though you've read these, hearing it read by Addams himself is almost completley different from reading his work. You get a sense of emotion and meaning that you can't get with bland text. This collection is an excellent addition to any Dilbert fan's stock.
