Same problem Feb 04, 2005
By Brandi M. Young I like these lights for their slimness and linkability. We've installed them as undercounter lights in our kitchen, and they look wonderful.
However..
As with another reviewer, one of our lights does not work.
I cannot leave my lights plugged in b/c we use this unit also for "uplighting" above the cabinets. We'd have to get a ladder out to touch these things off. I had hoped that these lights would all come on when I plug the linked units back in, but they don't...and it's random if they will or won't. So I have to go to each unit and "touch" it on, as they have no "on" switch...just the touch sensitive function. For one unit however, once I unplugged it, and plugged it back it, despite all the "touching" in the world, this light would not come back on. I tested it's bulb in my other units. No bulb issue, and when I put this bulb back in, the unit came back on like a gem. But again, once I unplugged it, upon plugging back it, that thing will not come on no matter how or where you touch it.
The other problem is that they are attached to two brackets so that you can pivot them and remove them for changing out the lights. At considerable damage to your hand, b/c this light does NOT want to come off. I can also see that it deeply stresses the plastic brackets, and I worry about breakage.
The other problem with the touch on function is that there is no "sweet spot" for THIS is where it works. For some of these lights, though they eventually come on, I spend a good minute trying to get the durn thing to turn on. Although ironically it's very sensitive about turning OFF. Remember, though they advertise the great swivel function, every time you touch it to swivel...off goes the light again. Grrrrr....
I would say that this product would be great improved if they had a "touch on" override switch. If the company offers one that has all these features and brushed nickel, but with an on/off switch, I'd say go for that one!

LIGHT: EXCELLENT--BUY BULB: VERY BAD Oct 31, 2005

GIVE LIGHT 5 STARS/ GIVE PURCHASING BULB 1 STAR. (Bought about 3 years ago at Walmart. Uses F17T4 H.O. fluorescent bulb. 1 bulb lasts about 1 year. On 24-7, never turn it off.) Light is mounted at hotel front desk over an LCD display phone console. PLUSES: Length, thin, adjustable-swivel, bright, energy efficient & linkable if I ever need a 2nd light, replace bulb w/o taking light down. (17 watts used for 85 watt equivalent.) So bright I have black tape along one edge to lessen glare. BIG, BIG NEGATIVE: Can't find bulb anywhere in Austin, TX. (Not biggest city but not PODUNK, USA either.) Last time got bulbs from Megabrite via web but, 2-3 years later I would have expected the bulb to have transitioned to ready store availability.
EDITORIAL SHOT: Anyone else dislike the trend to LCD (vs LED) for displays on phone displays/clocks/temperature-clock displays? Supposed to be for energy savings & battery savings. I would gladly pay for a 2nd battery to get a usable LED display. Now I'm "saving energy" with the phone display but burning energy with the 18 watt light to make the display usable.
SORRY GUYS: Got this in wrong area--should be in 20 LINKABLE review not 15 linkable. Review buttons to let others vote? I thought those were automatic. How are they turned on? UPDATE: I still like the light but have to recommend against purchase. I just got a response from a website: 1 bulb is $13. Cost less as more are bought but just not worth it to pay more or almost as much as for a full light assembly.

GREAT lighting if mounted forward under the cabinets Nov 03, 2006
By ReadsALot Our kitchen had large fluorescent fixtures mounted to the back wall under most of the kitchen cabinets. There was a narrow cabinet that had none. The fixtures were large and showed when you were seated in the room or adjacent family room, and the light was poor as it bounced off the wall and didn't cover the entire counter space. After replacing them with a variety of sizes of the Megabrites the difference is stunning. Since these come in very short lengths we were able to install one under the narrow cabinet, too. The secret is installing all of them under the front of the cabinets. The light is spread from there to the back and lights up the counters beautifully. Megabrites allowed us to link various sizes in order to have solid lighting under all the cabinets. They work so well. We really recommend them. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars is that we've found the replacement bulbs aren't all that easy to find.

what are they talking about? Jul 08, 2005

I'm not sure what the other reviews are talking about!! These lights are fantastic. I'm ordering 3 more!
You need to touch the metal part in order to turn it on - any where on the entire metal strip - not the plastic side piece, not the plastic light - just the metal strip that runs along the entire lenght of the frame. They turn on fine and stay on until touched (on metal piece) again. They swivel if needed, provide sufficient bright light, and they are slim so you dont see them. They were easy to install. They're great.
We installed (3)under our kitchen cabinets, towards the front of the cabinet so the fixtrue would not be visable (slim feature). We stapled the wire to run along the bottom of the cabinet so that it would be inconspicuous. We did not use the plug in feature, but drilled a whole in the drywall and hard wired them to an electrical outlet. They work terrifically!
I would definately recommend. And we're coming back for more.

Single On/Off Switch Not Available For Multiple Lights Oct 06, 2005
By Satisfied Customer Great little under-the-counter light and the parallel connections for stringing multiple lights is a great wire-saving feature. The touch-on/touch-off mechanism, however, lacks a global method to get-em-all-on/off at the same time. I use a metal yard-stick to reach and "power on" each light switch, because no other switching methods reliably turns-em-on. This is a problem because my wife, irratinaly, fears getting a shock, so she refuses to touch-em.
I own six units and plan to buy more soon. I am glad this website is available for additional purchases.
